JOIN USA 50-year-old man was arrested by the police on Thursday on the charge of raping the 13-year-old daughter of his neighbour in Hanumanthapura, Srirampura, in the weekend.
The girl, a class 7 student, alleged that Muruga, who runs a welding shop, dragged her into the common toilet in front of her house, locked it from inside and raped her on Saturday afternoon.
She had returned from school and was playing outside the house when the incident occurred, she stated in the police complaint.
The girl’s parents were away at work and there was no one in the house at the time. The family lodged a complaint at Srirampura police station, following which Muruga was arrested.
On Thursday, the girl complained to her stepmother about having pain in the abdomen and the private parts. When she inquired, the girl narrated the incident.
Srirampura police said a case of rape had been registered. The girl underwent medical examination at the K C General Hospital on Thursday evening.
