SP likely to withdraw support to UPA govt

Last Updated 13 November 2009, 20:07 IST

With the Congress emerging as its “enemy number one” in its home turf of Uttar Pradesh, the SP cannot continue to support the UPA, said a senior SP leader here.

During the recent “post-poll” discussions, several SP leaders had urged the party leadership to break ties with the Congress even though it was “mostly one-sided.”

The leader said the SP had not fielded any candidates against Rahul and Sonia Gandhi in Amethi and Raebareli, respectively, but the favour was returned by the Congress at Ferozabad, where a member of the Mulayam family was in the fray.
