Deputy Commissioner P C Jaffer has recommended to the vice-chancellor of the Kuvempu University (KU) that the post graduate exams under the distance learning mode of the university be declared null and void.

The move came after a team of officials led by Jaffer inspected exam centres in the city, including the Vidya PU College at Vidyanagar, where they came across instances of mass copying. On Saturday, exams were held for political science and economics.

Students of the study centre in the premises of Satyam College were writing the exam at the Vidya PU College. A number of irregularities came to the fore when the team inspected the eight rooms in the college where the exam was underway. The DC said that suitable action should be taken against the staff in charge of the examination.

The mass copying at the time of the team’s visit has been video recorded. A case has been registered at the Gandhi Ganj police station.

Assistant commissioner Kanakavalli and zilla panchayat chief executive officer Ujwal Kumar Ghosh were part of the team.
