The political mudslinging between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party is all set to land in court.

City BJP unit president Vijay Goel on Wednesday said he will file a defamation suit against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for “levelling baseless charges of corruption against him and his party”.

Goel had earlier sent a legal notice to the AAP leader, to which Kejriwal replied on Wednesday. Goel said he has now decided to file a criminal complaint against Kejriwal as he has failed to come up with evidence in support of his charges.

“The Delhi BJP president has already served a legal notice to him. The reply given by Kejriwal has no specific details that could prove even an iota of the allegations levelled against the Delhi BJP president. Hence, Goel is compelled to file a criminal complaint against Kejriwal,” BJP said in a statement.

“Ironically, Kejriwal’s vitriolic and personal attack on Delhi BJP is helping Congress the most. It is surprising that instead of targeting the Congress government, AAP leaders are targeting the main opposition party, which is all set to defeat Congress,” it added.

Earlier, Kejriwal shared his reply to Vijay Goel with the media. The AAP leader said he stands by his statements and is ready to face legal consequences.

“My reply to Goel is simple. He should ask his conscience if he is not corrupt. It’s not only me, but people in general say so. BJP is in power in the MCD for the past seven years. Can anybody get a building plan sanctioned without bribing MCD officials? Had there been no corruption in MCD, the issue of dengue would not have recurred every year,” Kejriwal told reporters.
