Last Updated 01 October 2013, 07:48 IST

The Centre today asked the Madhya Pradesh government to send a report on jail break in Khandwa in which seven alleged activists of banned SIMI fled from a prison.

Taking serious note of the incident, the Home Ministry asked the state government to explain the circumstances leading to the jail break and the measures taken to nab the prisoners who were involved in the prison break, official sources said.

The prisoners who fled from Khandwa district jail early today are -- Amjad, Aslam, Zakir, Mehboob (all from Khandwa), Ejazuddin (of Narsinh Yard, Kareli), Abu Faizal (Juhu), Aabid Mirza (of Oont Kuwan, Hatampura, Khandwa).

However, one of them - Aabid Mirza - was caught later.

The six prisoners, who are still at large, are allegedly hardcore activists of Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)

SIMI is a banned organisation in the country and many of its top leaders are in various jails.
