Life term for 13 in LeT recruitment case

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Kochi on Friday sentenced all 13 people convicted in the Kashmir terror recruitment case to life imprisonment.

Three of the 13 convicts – Sarfraz Nawaz, Abdul Jabbar and Sabir P Buhari – were awarded two life terms. The sentence for two other convicts – Thadiyantavida Nazeer, one of the masterminds of the recruitment drive and Shafaz – will commence after completion of another life sentence they are serving in a twin blasts case.

The NIA court on Tuesday convicted 13 of the 18 people who were facing trial in the case. They recruited youngsters from Kerala for undergoing arms training with Lashkar-e-Toiba in Jammu and Kashmir. Others who were awarded life sentences are Abdul Jaleel, M H Faisal, P Mujib, Ibrahim Maulvi, Firoz, Mohammed Nawaz, Sainuddin and Ummer Farooq.
