The Jnanabharathi police have taken a construction worker into custody on the charge of murder. The suspect, Palaniswamy, is accused of killing his friend M Krishnappa.

According to Jnanabharathi police, Palaniswamy and M Krishnappa were working as labourers at a construction project in Kengunte. The two men received their weekly wages on October 11.

Krishnappa, however, asked his supervisor for an advance on next week’s wages. When the supervisor agreed, Palaniswamy also demanded an advance which irritated the supervisor who told them that he was running short of money and could not give advance to both, police said.

This enraged Krishnappa and he blamed Palaniswamy for the supervisor’s refusal to give him the money. Krishnappa is said to have slapped Palaniswamy.

Palaniswamy woke up late on Friday night when Krishnappa was asleep and kicked him hard in the groin. After this, he went back to bed and slept. When Krishnappa did not wake up the following morning, despite the efforts of other workers to rouse him, he was rushed to a hospital nearby where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Palaniswamy has been booked for murder.
