KSRP constable commits suicide

A constable belonging to the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) allegedly hanged himself at his house in Rajagopalnagar police limits on Tuesday.

G V Venkataramaiah, 45, a resident of 9th Cross at Hegganahalli, Andralli Main Road, was attached to ‘E’ company of the 4th battalion of KSRP. He was married to Varalakshmamma and had two sons and a daughter.

According to police, Venkataramaiah was addicted to alcohol and often absent from work. He would return home drunk and create ruckus in the neighbourhood. On Monday, his wife had been to Maddur to attend the funeral of her relative.

The children were at their relative’s house in the next lane when Venkataramaiah returned home heavily drunk, police said. The next morning, his eldest son found him hanging with a sari from the ceiling fan.

Two drown in river

Two women from Bangalore drowned in a river at Melur near Srirangam, reports PTI from Tiruchirapalli. According to police they got trapped in loose sand and were dragged under.

A 14-year-old girl died on the spot while her 22-year-old friend succumbed to injuries. A third woman, aged 25, is undergoing treatment at hospital. The three, all hailing from Bangalore, but natives of Srirangam, had come to the town on a holiday.
