Heavy rains likely to lash the City in the next 48 hours as an upper air cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal is activated.

The same upper air cyclonic system was responsible for rain early Wednesday morning in South Bangalore. The Meteorology department said that South Bangalore had received about six cm rainfall.

The Director of the Indian Meteorology Department, B Puttanna said at least 75 per cent of South Interior Karnataka may receive good rains in the next 48 hours, as a result of the north-east monsoon.

“We are expecting up to 209 mm rainfall in at least 16 districts of South Karnataka. There can be rain in some of the districts of North Karnataka,” said Puttanna.

The Insat pictures put up on the Indian Meteorology department’s website show thick clouds spread over Andaman Nicobar islands to South Interior Karnataka.

Due to heavy rainfall early Wednesday morning, many canals in South Bangalore were overflowing, new potholes surfaced, particularly on Kanakapura and KR Road. However, the rain did not cause much damage.
