Several senior RJD leaders, after being mauled at the hustings, are now making demand that Rabri be removed from the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly if the party has to be revived in Bihar. “We have been routed in this election. The situation could become even worse if Lalu fails to take some hard decisions, including replacing Rabri with a competent leader who can match the skills of treasury benches, which is headed by Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi,” said a veteran legislator, refusing to be identified.

“The fact is that Rabri does not have in her the attributes to play the role of Leader of the Opposition. She still remains essentially a housewife,” opined another RJD legislator.   “Even her speeches during the election campaign damaged the RJD to a great extent. Her foul language at certain poll meetings created a bad impression among the voters.”

The party is now seriously considering former Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh’s view that Lalu, instead of lobbying for ministerial berth, should reject it even if it is offered. “Laluji should spend more time in Bihar than Delhi, and boost the sagging morale of the dejected party workers,” averred another legislator, who had entered the fray but lost.

The RJD contested 28 seats while its ally, the Lok Janashakti Party , contested the remaining 12 constituencies. While the LJP could not win even a single seat, including Paswan’s Hajipur, the RJD managed to scrape through in four seats.

“We committed a blunder by deserting the Congress. But that’s now history. We should look forward how to retrieve the lost ground,” a senior RJD legislator told Deccan Herald on Wednesday.
