Think of a management festival and all that comes to one’s mind are a series of corporate-themed quizzes, case study contests, and other such business related activities. True to the corporate style, Deen Dayal Upadhyay College held its annual management festival, Melange, on 19 October.

While the line-up had the quintessential Bizz Bay, a business quiz; Stalking the Stock, a mock stock activity; the Big Pitch, a business plan competition and the Crisis Manager, a case study competition, it didn’t fall short on high on adrenaline contests. The competitive events at the festival sought to test the analytical and creative skills of the participants

When Metrolife reached the venue, students were busy preparing their acts. Fifteen minutes post their prepepation, the teams were up on stage with their business agendas creatively formulated into entertaining acts for the Ads Act, a performance oriented advertising contest.

With quirky themes such as Baba Ramdev’s baseball bat, Punjabi lingerie, and ACP Pradyuman’s condoms, students made a strong case for their products, by coming up with an entertaining performance to sell their projects. There was dance, music and a strong sales pitch backing their acts that only lasted for a minute or two. Seeing the action-packed performances, one can only commend their efforts and quick wit for coming up with such novel ideas at such a short notice.

On the other side of the ground, there was a mini-football league going on. DDUC-ians call it Futsal - a five-member team football match that features year after year in Melange. A private Nigerian team called Victorous FC also took part in this league alongside the college students from Delhi University. Other activities included, Hold’ em! (Poker) and Roger That (LAN gaming) for sports and gaming enthusiasts in the university.

Shrey  Gupta, the organising head informed Metrolife, “Unlike past years where only Punjabi singers performed in Melange, this year featured electronic dance music from DJs like DJ Mash who performed in Sunburn in 2012 and DJ Irwin.” Seeing the enthusiasm in students, it was palpable that they were all awaiting the DJ night scheduled at 5 pm in the evening.
