Rediscovering her roots

Last Updated 22 October 2013, 15:33 IST

As an actor you have to reinvent yourself all the time. You have to constantly come up with a look to compliment your character. But otherwise I am quite Bohemian and nonchalant at home,” says Soha Ali Khan, adding that she has a “lot of yoga pants” that she likes to wear.

Dressed in a fusion, backless-outfit inspired from the North-Eastern culture, Soha looked stunning while promoting the Delhi Chapter of ‘North East Fest 2013’, which will be held next month. An excited Soha shared, “Very few people know this but my grandmother is from the North-East, she was born in Assam and a part of me is actually Assamese,” she smiles over the thought and adds that once she attended a store opening in Tripura and “had to take a helicopter to reach there. Since some parts of the North-East are still unaccessible, we had to take three different modes of transport to get there.”

“But its changing now so its very easy to get to Guwahati but still I don’t go as often as I would like to and I want to go to Sikkim which is very beautiful.” Enamoured by the charm of this region, Soha feels elated over the launch of the Delhi chapter of the festival. “The idea is to learn more about the North-East and give a platform to the designers and cultural representatives from that region to get a chance to make their designs more mainstream. It is also to generate employment opportunities for them. Therefore Delhi is the best place for this cultural synthesis.”

She substantiates by stating her dress as an example. “It is made out of eri silk blended with cotton and is very culture specific yet made in a lehenga-style that we in the North can associate with,” says Soha sitting pretty in a garment designed by Risha Deka, a young designer from Guwahati.

But still she was nervous, “Every time I have to wear heels and have to walk the ramp and stand next to very tall models, I don’t enjoy it at all,” she points at others,
grinning.

After playing a journalist in her latest release War Chod Na Yaar, Soha is all set to play a cop in her next. “It has always been my dream to play a cop and have got that opportunity in my next film Jo Bhi Karwalo where I play quite a dabbang inspector and get to beat up lots of people!”
