Second round of counselling for Ayush courses

Last Updated 28 October 2013, 20:17 IST

Based on parents’ requests and after the Central government extended the deadline for joining Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) courses, the Karnataka Examination Authority has decided to conduct a second round of counselling for Ayush courses, along with veterinary courses.

Unfilled seats in both streams will be offered for this round. The seat matrix will be hosted on the website after 3 pm on October 30. The option entry will begin from 3.30 pm on the same day. Students can enter options till 1 pm on November 7. The seat allotment results will be displayed on that day after 6 pm. Students will have to report to colleges at 5.30 pm on or before November 13.

With regard to retention of engineering seats by candidates who have also been allotted Ayush seats, KEA administrative officer S P Kulkarni said there were legal hurdles to facilitate students’ requests. Some students, who had joined engineering while awaiting Ayush counselling, had requested the KEA to allow them to retain their existing seats in engineering colleges, as they were not happy with Ayush seats.
The KEA had initially told students that they could retain the seats if they paid the engineering fees once again. However, this too might not be possible, as there are legal hurdles, Kulkarni said.

“We consulted the law department. They are of the opinion that this would set a precedent and it would be against the rules of the counselling process,” he said.
The KEA was trying to find a middle ground in offering a solution to the problem, as the Ayush counselling was delayed this time. Things would be clearer after the second round, he said.
