DMK warns PM against attending CHOGM

Last Updated 31 October 2013, 20:57 IST

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), an erstwhile ally of the United Progressive Alliance government, on Thursday warned the Congress of serious   consequences if Prime Minister Manmohan Singh participates in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Sri Lanka next month.

The party’s reaction came against the backdrop of reports in the local media indicating that the prime minister is likely to attend the CHOGM.

“Going by the media reports, it seems the prime minister is likely to participate in the meet against the wishes of the people of Tamil Nadu. If he participates his party (Congress) would face the consequences,” DMK president M Karunanidhi told reporters here.

Karunanidhi was categorical in saying that there should not be even a token of participation by India at the CHOGM. “When we say India should not participate, even a speck of rust should not be present at the meet,” he said.
