Man jumps into funeral pyre

In an apparent fit of madness, a fifty-five years old man jumped into a funeral pyre and died of burn injuries, police said.

This incident took place at Dhankawadi crematorium here at 2.30 this afternoon. He was identified as Kerba Govind Chavan, who lived in the same area.

Chavan was not related to the person who was to be created. He was apparently mentally imbalanced, and watchman of the crematorium had stopped him from entering the premises on earlier occasions.

He received serious burn injuries and was declared dead at Sassoon Hospital, police added.
Police are conducting further probe.
