KPCC norms for LS candidates

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) election committee, on Saturday, laid down set of guidelines for selection of candidates for 2014 Lok Sabha polls. This includes service of minimum five years to the party.

The committee members were of the view that party hoppers and new entrants should not be given priority over loyal workers. Denying tickets to those with criminal background, taking local party leaders into confidence and giving priority to candidates who belong to majority community of the constituency are other guidelines.

KPCC chief G Parameshwara, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union ministers Veerappa Moily, K H Muniyappa, Rahman Khan and Oscar Fernandes were among 30 leaders who took part in the meeting. AICC General Secretary (Karnataka In-charge) Digvijay Singh could not attend the meeting as he rushed back to Delhi for an emergency party meeting.

Sources said the panel decided to meet again within 15 days to finalise a list of probable names for each of the 28 parliamentary constituencies.
