It sure is the season of spirits, energy and long celebrations. Keeping up with the festive fervour, Baldwin Methodist College, Hosur Road, held Christmas and New Year celebrations for its students, faculty and staff recently. The annual celebration was organised in a traditional manner on the campus and began with a cake cutting ceremony. As the students braced up for other events, they were greeted and welcomed by Bishop Dr Taranath S Sagar, chairman, Baldwin Group of Institutions. Soon it was time for the most anticipated programme of the day — a play on Jesus’ birth. Students were delighted to see their teachers dress up as spiritual characters for the play.

Dressed as an angel, St Mary, Infant Jesus and Jacob among other characters, the staff and faculty members rocked the crowd with their performances.  The troupe then presented Christmas carols in six different languages — English, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam.

The teachers, who had taken the responsibility of organising the events, beamed as students cheered throughout. A special attraction of the show was Santa Claus, whose presence in the auditorium added to the celebrations. The person, who had dressed up as Santa, was Chandre Gowda, a staff member. As he entered the hall, the students were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed his dance thoroughly.

Rachel, a student of I PUC, said, “I am participating in the Christmas celebrations of college for the first time and am very happy about the way everything was organised. From the props to the lighting, everything was taken care of by the students with the help of ex-students and looked so real. Even our teachers became one of us while putting up the show. Their energy and enthusiasm inspired us to take an active part in the celebration.”

Various kinds of Christmas decorations adorned the walls of the bright campus as the students had taken 15 days to decorate it. Desiree, the college president, said, “Though it was a little tough to handle the students, the show turned out to be a success. Everyone was in a holiday mood and the energy level was high. As students, we are given big responsibilities during such events and everyone did a good job. We had a lot of fun as a team.” The students, who had performed well in different fields, were awarded on the occasion.
