The actor, who has further toned his body to suit the role, had first conceived the idea of making a movie on the exploits of a Pindari soldier 20 years ago.

"I have lived with Veer for 20 years... It can be called my most awaited film till date. I had written the story of my dream project when I was shooting for the film 'Baaghi' in 1990," Salman wrote in his blog.

The actor said that he first wanted to be a director but "as fate would have it" ended up becoming an actor but he did not abandon the idea.

"The film is set in the era of 1875 and is based on the love story of a warrior 'Veer' and his clan of the fearless Pindhari warriors of the 19th century," Salman wrote.

Directed by Anil Sharma of 'Gadar' fame and released by Eros International, the epic saga stars the actor in the role of Pindari soldier, who is torn between his love and duty.

Newcomer Zarine Khan will star opposite the actor as his lady love in the historical romance.

The first trailer of the movie is out on Friday with the release of 'De Dana Dan'.

The film also stars veteran actors like Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff along with Sohail Khan, Bharat Dabolkar and Lisa Lazarus-Miss UK in pivotal roles.

Oscar-winner Gulzar has penned the lyrics for the movie while the music is by Sajid Wajid.
