In a suicide attempt, a 50-year-old woman lost both her legs after she jumped in front of a running train at Adarsh Nagar Metro Station on Sunday.

Though a suicide note has been recovered from her, police are yet to ascertain her identity or the exact motive behind the extreme step.

She  purchased a token from Adarsh Nagar to Model Town Metro station, a senior police officer said. CCTV camera footage showed that she was loitering around alone at platform number one before she took the plunge.

She was rushed to hospital in a CATS ambulance that was stationed outside the station, but doctors could not save her legs. She is out of danger though.

Police recovered a one-page suicide note from her, but they are unable to decipher either her identity or the motive behind the suicide bid.

“We are trying to speak to her but she is yet to even reveal her name. We are
making efforts to identify her family members and contact them,” the officer said.

The suicide note was written in broken Hindi and doesn’t give out many details, the officer said.

“In her suicide note she begged to god for forgiveness and mentioned that no one should be blamed for her suicide. It also mentions that she was relying on a lot of medicines. By what we understand, poverty could be the
reason behind the last resort,” another police officer said.

Police have not registered a case against the woman.
