When Nazarbad police intercepted a car during their routine inspection on Monday morning on Bannur outer-ring road, little did they know that they were close to a prize catch. A chase helped them nab six persons, including a contract killer from Bangalore, who turned out to be a fugitive eluding the investigators in two sensational cases.

Zabbi alias Zabiulla is the supari killer who has been arrested along with his accomplices Sajjad, Kiran and Mubarak from Bangalore and Manju and Ahmed from Mysore. Zabbi and his men had robbed a lonely woman in Alanahalli in November, decamping with a booty of Rs 5.7 lakh. Earlier, he had hacked Kadeer a rowdy-sheeter to death in Udayagiri police limits here.

Announcing this to media here on Tuesday, Police Commissioner M A Saleem said that the gang had stacked ropes and weapons like draggers, cudgels and long (a sharp edged weapon with a curve) from the car.

The Commissioner said, Manju, a shamiyana vendor and the prime accused in the case is the brain behind the robbery. Zabbi, a professional, had befriended Manju sometime back. During his recent visit to the city, Zabbi asked for any job, needless to mention, any amoral way to make some fast bucks and that was how a sketch was made to strike seven houses including that of the lonely woman.

Mahadev, a contractor had left behind his aged mother alone at home, while his wife had gone outside to fetch her children from school. Interestingly, minutes after leaving the house, Mahadev came across Manju whom he knew and also exchanged pleasantries. It was only after confirming that Mahadev’s mother is alone at home, Manju and Zabbi decided to target her.

While the two kept watch outside, the four others meticulously executed the plan and the rest is history. Though seven valuables have been recovered, investigations are still on to recover the remain articles with receivers at large, the commissioner added.
The police team was led by Inspector K C Poovaiah consisting of sub-inspector H C Maadhu among others.
