The Kundgol police have arrested three persons of a family for filing a false complaint of kidnap and rape against their nephew.

The arrested are Siddramappa Yallappa Hattennavar, Shivanand Swamy and Ramesh, and the police are on the lookout for another suspect Virupaksha.

Siddramappa, a resident of Mavanur village in Kundgol taluk, had filed a complaint against his sister’s son Parashuram, accusing him of kidnapping and raping a minor girl on December 31.

A counter complaint was filed by their sister Channavva Ranoji, a resident of Budarsingi village, stating that Parashuram went missing on the eve of New Year, said Superintendent of Police B S Lokesh Kumar here on Sunday.

A team headed by DySP Raju Banahatti was formed to investigate the cases. Lokesh Kumar said Siddramappa and his brothers had a dispute with Parashuram over sharing their ancestral property.

They plotted to kidnap Parashuram and forcibly take his signature on the documents pertaining to the property. Accordingly, they called Parashuram on the pretext of hiring his four-wheeler for a trip to Jog Falls. However, they took him to Haveri, where they tied his hands, seized the vehicle documents and forced him to sign certain property documents, the SP said. They later filed a complaint of kidnap and rape against Parashuram with the Kundgol police.

The CCTV footage available with the Haveri police also confirmed that the three brothers, with the help of Virupaksha, had taken Parashuram to the town. The medical examination report by the doctors at KIMS too had ruled out the rape of the minor girl, the SP said.
