By sheer coincidence this year, the special day has been marked by the visit of Kumar Vishwas of the Aam Aadmi Party who is gearing up to take on Rahul at his home turf.
So it is no wonder that Congress cadres worked hard to make a noisier celebration of Priyanka’s birthday this year to vie for prominence with the much-publicised AAP rally.
Congress workers went about organising events in different places of the district, even as Kumar Vishwas attacked the Gandhi family and asked for its ouster from Amethi.
Congress local unit organised a programme to distribute tri-cycles to the physically challenged and distributed blanket to the poor, party leaders said. A series of `dalit bhoj' (feasting with dalit) were also organized throughout the constituency.
“Priyanka Gandhi is very closely connected with the people of the constituency.....she is a household name here...people celebrate her birthday in their own way,” said the Amethi congress chief Yogendra Mishra. He said that the programmes organised by the party workers had direct relation with the common people. Women's groups also organized dance programmes to celebrate the occasion.
