Dhananjay ready to apologise

Last Updated 13 January 2014, 20:04 IST

Former union minister V Dhananjay Kumar on Monday said he was ready to tender an apology for his comments on former prime minister L K Advani. He is also hopeful of returning to the BJP soon after Sankranti.

Dhananjay Kumar in April last had created a political furore by alleging Advani’s children forcibly appropriated money from chief ministers of BJP ruled states including B S Yeddyurappa.

At that point, Kumar had already been expelled by the BJP for six years for making statements against the then chief minister Jagadish Shettar. Kumar could not rejoin the BJP along with Yeddyurappa and his supporters last week leading to speculation that his Advani comments had come in the way of his homecoming. It was also speculated that the party central leadership had insisted that Kumar tender an unconditional public apology if he wants to return to party fold.

When contacted by Deccan Herald, Kumar said he was ready to tender an apology. “After all Advaniji is the tallest leader in the party. I made the statements during the time of elections,” Kumar said and added that nobody from the party had sought an apology from him.

Kumar said he could not attend Yeddyurappa’s homecoming event in Bangalore last week as he was in New Delhi at a prefixed appointment with officials of the Election Commission of India.
