Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday categorically stated that he is not seeking any alliance with the BSR Congress Party in a bid to save the JD(S)’ position as the principal opposition party in the legislative Assembly.

He said the JD(S) is not seeking alliance with the BSR Congress, on account of the ‘tainted’ MLAs in their ranks. “Already we are seeing the backlash for the BJP sharing sweets with its estranged tainted leaders (Yeddyurappa). Tomorrow, people will question even my morality if I have a tie-up with tainted MLAs, one of whom is in jail. Personally, and as floor leader, I am not trying to forge any alliance with anybody,” he clarified.

On the possibility of JD(S) approaching Pramoda Devi, wife of late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, to contest in the Lok Sabha elections, Kumaraswamy said he has personally not met her in this regard. He said the Congress and the BJP have made half-hearted attempts to lure her to contest the elections on their party ticket, and the JD(S) does not wish to follow suit. However, he said Pramoda Devi is more than welcome to contest on JD(S) ticket, if she wishes to do so.

Earlier, the former chief minister attacked the BJP and the Congress for their double standards on corruption and various other issues. He termed both the national parties two faces of the same coin. “They have national ambitions and are trying to woo the voters in Karnataka. But what are they promising the people of Karnataka, if voted to power. While the Congress candidates are organising cycle rallies, BJP is playing 20-20 cricket matches. Will these events solve the infrastructure and water problems of the State,” he questioned. The JD(S) leader said his party will try to provide an alternative to the two national parties, if it wins at least 10 to 12 seats in the State.
