Journalist Nalini Singh on Saturday said Union Minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar was “distraught and crying” when she spoke to her over phone on Friday.  The 68-year-old confirmed that Sunanda discussed about Tharoor and Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.

It is claimed that Sunanda called Nalini at 12:10 am on January 17, and the call lasted for around seven minutes. “She was distraught and crying, but steadied herself in the middle,” she said.

During the conversation, e-mails exchanged between Tharoor and Tarar were also discussed.

Sunanda further revealed to Nalini that she had been diagnosed with stomach tuberculosis. “It was late at night and may be she said it would be cancer now. When somebody is distraught, you don’t make them repeat their words,” Nalini added.

It was also mentioned that Sunanda underwent treatment at Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Thiruvananthapuram.

“She was mighty upset. I told her everybody loves you. You need to know that,” she said.
Nalini has also agreed to share details of the conversation with Delhi Police. When asked whether Sunanda could have committed suicide over the controversy, Nalini said: “I feel I should tell this to police.”
