Court issues NBWs against 22 rape accused

A local court in Muzaffarnagar district on Tuesday issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against 22 people involved in five gang-rapes during riots that rocked Uttar Pradesh districts in September last year.

The NBWs were issued after a special investigating team (SIT) probing the incidents moved the court for the issuance of the warrants against the men, absconding since charges were brought against them.  The police expressed confidence that they would soon arrest all the accused.

Several women riot victims in Muzaffarnagar had alleged that they had been gang-raped during the violence.Shaking off their initial hesitations, the gang-rape victims later gathered and approached the police to narrate their tales.

According to the reports, six women from Fugana village alone had complained that they had been gang-raped. They alleged that they had been raped by men from their own village who had barged into their houses on September 7, the night when the violence was at its peak.
