Double murder case cracked, 5 held

Madanayak- anahalli police have cracked a recent double murder case by arresting five people reportedly involved in the killing of Manjunath and Umesh, cousins who worked as auto drivers at Laggere, on January 4.

Hareesh Babu and his friend, who had come to meet Manjunath and Umesh on the day of the incident, played a crucial role in the cracking of the case, police said.

Police have now arrested Gangadhar, 29, Vasu, 30, Ambreesh, 28, and Thakka, 27. Police said the main accused Chetan alias Chetu, who had been absconding since the day of the murder, was arrested in another case by the City police on Friday. Madanayakanahalli police have now sought his custody.

A senior police officer said Vasu and Amabreesh, along with their friends, had been to a bar at Laggere on January 4, where they overheard a conversation between Manjunath and Umesh trying to give supari to their cousin Hareesh Babu to finish off Chetan.

They immediately alerted Chetan who turned up with a gang, abducted Manjunath, Umesh and Hareesh Babu in their luggage auto, took them to a house at Laggere, where he assaulted and stabbed the two auto drivers to death.

The gang then dumped the bodies – bludgeoned beyond recogition in an attempt to conceal their identity – in an open farm in Machohalli and fled.

Constables injured

Two constables of JB Nagar police station sustained injuries after being hit by a speeding car, while on night patrolling in the early hours of Saturday at Kodigehalli on Kempegowda International Airport Road.

The injured were identified as Sunil and Shivanna. They were rushed to a nearby private hospital and are being treated for injuries on their legs, said the police. The accident occurred at 2.30 am and the car was moving at a speed of more than 100 kilometres per hour. The car driver fled without stopping his car, said Shivanna.
