A 14-month-old toddler was allegedly sexually assaulted by her father’s colleague, who was also their neighbour, in JC Nagar on Sunday.

The victim is the only daughter of an army man posted as a Naik at the Parachute Regiment Training Centre. The family was living in the quarters of the training centre at Mekhri Circle.

On Sunday evening, the couple left their daughter in the care of Dharamveer Singh, 33, also a Naik at the training centre. Sandeep Patil, DCP (North), told Deccan Herald that when the girl’s parents returned home late in the evening, she was crying uncontrollably.
When her mother picked her up to console her, she was shocked to see her bleeding profusely from her private parts.

The parents rushed the girl to a nearby hospital, where she was subjected to medical examination. The tests confirmed that there were evidences of sexual assault.

JC Nagar police have registered a case of rape against Dharamveer Singh. He has been taken into custody. Patil said that the condition of the girl had improved and she was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
