In yet another suspected honour killing in Uttar Pradesh, a teen was allegedly hacked to death by her father in Raath village in  Bareilly district, about 250 kilometres from here, after she insisted on marrying her lover.

According to police, the body of the girl was yet to be recovered and the alleged culprits are absconding.

Warning

According to reports, the 17-year-old girl was having an affair with a youth from the same village for the past couple of years. Her parents did not approve of their relationship and she had been warned not meet her lover.

The teen, reports said, had gone to meet her lover on Sunday night at his home, when she was spotted by her father, Shanti Pal Kashyap, who is a mechanic.

Kashyap and some other family members reached the youth’s house and brought the teen home.

According to the villagers, her father was very angry and repeatedly declared that he would kill her.

The villagers found Kashyap’s house locked on Monday morning. They became suspicious and informed the police.

Police broke open the doors and were shocked to find bloodstains on the floor and walls.

There were also bloodstained clothes which the teen used to wear, they said.

Body not found

Officials said it was possible that she had been killed and her body thrown somewhere.

A case of murder has been registered against her father and a hunt launched to nab the culprits.

Efforts were also on to recover the body.

Earlier also, many lovers had been killed for the sake of family honour in different parts of UP, especially in the western part of the state.

The panchayats have already declared that they will not allow love marriages.
