Cong has failed to protect Christians: Saldanha

Last Updated 29 January 2014, 19:27 IST

Christian minorities continue to be targeted in Karnataka despite the Congress’ claims of being a secular party, according to Michael Saldanha, former judge of the Bombay and the Karnataka High Courts.

Briefing reporters on Wednesday, he said the very agents who instigated religion-based riots were still roaming freely in society. Unfortunately, Karnataka tops the list of having accommodated these miscreants.”

“It is local as well as the Central government’s responsibility to ensure its citizens’ safety. We are not supporting any party here, but these cases continue to haunt the minorities,” Sadanha added. “Each time there is a new instance of Christian pastors being hospitalised for violence unleashed against them. We are only asking the government to withdraw those cases which are filed in the name of forceful conversions.

Also, prosecute those who attack churches, thus providing security to Christians,” he said. “We have held talks with the Governor. We hope the situation changes in the coming months,” said Catholic Secular Forum general secretary Joseph Dias.
