Srinath powers gelding to a stunning victory

Alandair pulled off a major stunner in McDowell Signature Indian Derby (Grade I) race over 2400 metres, ripping the form book to shreds that left the pundits in utter shock.

Piloted by Srinath, the Altamash A-trained gelding produced a record-breaking run, powering home in 2:28.05, ahead of Starry Eyes (A Sandesh up) at the Mahalaxmi Race Course here.

Circle Of Life, ridden by R Hughes, finished third while pre-race favourite Murioi failed to live upto its huge hype, settling for fourth place at a track where it had never lost earlier.

Banglore Winter Derby winner Agostini (L Beuzelin astride) finished sixth.
