He may be just one film old but Sidharth Malhotra has caught the attention of the audience and film-makers.

In the City to promote his upcoming film Hasee Toh Phasee, he told Metrolife that he is waiting to break his ‘good boy image’. But after debuting in ‘Student of the Year’ (‘SOTM’), which brought him in the limelight over a year ago, where had he been? “Actually if I had my way, I would have wanted Hasee Toh Phasee to release last year. However, there were some issues with production and all the decisions that were taken were purely business-based,” he answers.

Even otherwise, the actor says that he likes taking one film at a time. “It’s good to have the same physical appearance for one film. Since different films demand different looks, shooting simultaneously for films can mean that there is no continuity in the look. I like ensuring that I look the same in one film. It works well that way,” he says, adding, “Even in future, I would like to do one film at a time.”

A bundle of nerves about Hasee Toh Phasee which is his first solo film, Sidharth says, “It’s been a wonderful experience.” Talking of co-star Parineeti Chopra, he exclaims, “I’ve picked up her infectious laugh and her habit of using a lot of lip balm.”

He is currently working on ‘The Villain’, which is being directed by Mohit Suri and will release in the middle of the year. Looking forward to the film’s release, Sidharth says, “I’m portraying a character with grey shades, which will hopefully break the good boy image that I have been stereotyped with.

Actually, it was ‘SOTM’ that gave me that image and I probably haven’t been able to break out of it because of the lack of films.” Ask him about the peppy dance sequence titled ‘Shake It Like Shammi’ in Hasee Toh Phasee and he clarifies, “The song is not a tribute to Shammi Kapoor. Anyway, let’s see how it fares.”

Confirming that he has signed a project, which is going to be the remake of the French film ‘Priceless’, to be produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur’s production house, the actor says, “I have signed the film but will not be able to reveal any details.”

According to the newcomer, if he looks up to somebody in the industry, it is Ranbir Kapoor. “From the actors who are in my age group, he’s the best in B-Town at the moment,” he sums up.
