Five chain-snatchers held

The Subramanyapura police arrested Shekhar (24) of Soudamini Layout at Konanakunte Cross and Raju alias Oil Raja (24) of Siddanna Layout in Konanakunte Cross. They were caught when the patrolling police spotted the duo on a motorcycle at Soudamini Layout moving suspiciously. When the policemen questioned them they tried to escape. After a brief chase they were caught.

On interrogation, they revealed their involvement in chain snatching cases. Police suspect that their vehicle is also a stolen one. Police have recovered 47 gram gold estimated to be worth Rs 80,000 and the motorcycle from them.

Second case

In another case, the Siddapura police nabbed three chain snatchers. They have been identified as Chandra (25) of Sarakki Garden in JP Nagar, Basavaraju (25) of Challaghatta village in Kengeri and Shivaraju (26) of Bommanahalli.

On Thursday the trio was speeding on a motorcycle when the Siddapura police intercepted them. They tried to escape but failed in their attempt. All of them were detained and questioned. They later confessed that they are chain snatchers and  are involved in many criminal activities.

Police recovered 148 gram gold ornaments and motorcycle worth Rs 2.86 lakh from them. Chandra and Basavaraj told police that they were involved in a robbery along with one more accomplice at Bannerghatta. Chandra was involved in chain snatching at Banashankari in 2005. Shivaraj was involved in a murder at Madiwala this year, police added.
