In order to provide economical and comfortable cab services at auto fares, Meru Cabs on Thursday launched Genie Cabs in the City.

Presently, the minimum auto fare is Rs 25 for the first 1.9 kilometres and Rs 13 for every subsequent kilometre. For the Genie Cab service, the minimum fare will be Rs 100 for the first six kilometres and subsequent kilometres will be charged at Rs 12.50.

Siddhartha Pahwa, CEO, Genie and Meru Cabs, said, “We have already launched this service in Hyderabad. To start with, we are launching 250 hatchback cabs in Bangalore, which will ply in Malleswaram, Vijayanagar, Jayanagar, Koramangala, Indiranagar, MG Road and other places. We plan to add up to 2,500 cabs to our fleet in two years.”

R Muniveera Gowda, Additional Transport Commissioner Secretary-STA, said that even though the City had a good network of buses run by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, a section of people travelled by cabs for their daily commute. These cabs will not take away the share of the buses in any way,” he said.

However, commuters will have to shell out Rs 30 as convenience charges if they book cabs on the phone, the officials said.
