In a resolution adopted at its meeting, Bar Association of India, an independent body of a section of lawyers, said: “The Bar Association of India most fervently and seriously appeals to the collegium of the Supreme Court not to proceed further with his (Dinakaran) recommendation for appointment to the apex court and save the credibility of judiciary in the eyes of the people.”

It is not the question whether the charges against Justice Dinakaran are correct or not, but whether the appointment of such a person whose integrity was “widely perceived to be doubtful” would affect the faith of the common man in the judicial institution, the Bar Association of India said.

Appeal

The association further requested the collegium to put an end to the controversy by announcing the withdrawal of the recommendation to the government.

A Bar Association of India member from Bangalore made a special presentation on the Dinakaran controversy by laying bare the facts and figures with visual graphics.

The vision document and action plan, 2009, adopted at the meeting in the presence of Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily, said the Bar Association of India was for reforms in judiciary, especially bringing transparency and accountability in the posting of judges.
