'Create awareness on farming among kids'

Krishi Utsav inaugurated in Narasimharajapura

Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde has said that there was a need to create awareness on farming among children. Speaking at Krishi Utsav organised by the SKDRDP, at Government PU College hall on Saturday, he said drought and heavy rain take a toll of agriculture.

The farmers should make use of funds available under MGNREGS to improve farming. “We need to solve the row over reserve forest and encroachment within the framework of the law,” the MP said. 

MLA C T Ravi said empowerment of villages was the dream of Mahatma Gandhi. Even after 68 years of India’s independence, villages have not become self-reliant. Farmers should be empowered economically. The government should chalk out plans to attract youth towards farming.” 

Stating that the previous BJP government has sanctioned dairy unit to support dairy farming in the district, MLA D N Jeevraj said that the process to set up the unit has not been initiated. 

JD(S) State unit Vice President H T Rajendra said that by providing micro finance to women, the SKDRDP has empowered women. Simhana Gadde Bastimutt seer Sri Lakshmisenabhattaraka Swamiji spoke on the occasion.
