Even as protests over 19-year-old Nido Taniam’s death refuse to die down, another incident of assault against a person from the North-East has shamed the national capital.

This time, a 14-year-old girl visiting her aunt from Manipur was allegedly raped by a 19-year-old boy in south Delhi's Munirka on Friday.

The accused has been arrested, said the police. The incident triggered protests outside the local police station.

According to the police, Ashish alias Vicky kidnapped the girl when she went to purchase a dish-washing bar from a nearby market at around 10:30 pm on Friday.

“She was raped and kept confined for around an hour in an empty room on the ground floor of Vicky’s house,” said a police officer.

As she did not return home for over an hour, members of the girl’s family went to Vasant Vihar police station and filed a missing-person complaint. She was found when they were returning home.

“The victim was crying when another neighbour spotted her and decided to escort her home,” added the officer.

The girl was traumatised, but narrated the incident to her family. She was later taken to the police station, after which a medical examination was conducted on her at Safdarjung Hospital.
