'My success is my survival'

Tamil actor Bharath has plenty to look forward to this year. He has grabbed a film opposite Malayalam superstar Mohanlal titled Koothara, where he  plays a substantial role.

While it is going great guns on the professional front, the young actor has just tied a knot with his long-time girlfriend Jeshly.

Metrolife caught up with the couple who were in the City recently and got them talking on a variety of things.

Jeshly has been travelling with Bharath on his shoots and accompanies him to the Celebrity Cricket League matches as well. She is a dentist who was born and raised in Dubai. The two met each other a couple of years ago. Jeshly recalls, “We met through common friends and at that time, I didn’t know he was an actor. Now, I make it a point to watch all his movies, past and present.”

She understands his nature of work and feels, “I think making quality time for each other is the biggest challenge at this moment.” About the actor in Bharath, she says, “He works very hard. Impossible, as it may seem, I have seen him survive on just dry grapes. That’s his level of dedication.” Marriage hasn’t changed anything for Bharath. He says, “She understands my work and we are supportive of each other.”
Bharath will soon be seen as a rugby player in his next project, which is touted to be a comedy-fiction movie. “I’ve never acted in a full-length comedy and I am more than looking forward to working in that project before I move on to my next film which is an action-entertainer.” He recollects working with Naseeruddin Shah in ‘Jackpot’, his Bollywood debut, as a particularly interesting experience.

“I’ve always wanted to work with Naseeruddin Shah. His body of work is truly admirable, yet he is so simple and has no attitude. We spent time talking about a variety of issues,” he observes.

Even after a decade in the industry, this shy actor says, “My success is my survival. At a time, when there are new heroes popping up every Friday, I must work hard to stay focussed. I don’t believe in comparing myself with others.”

Bharath doesn’t believe in working in multiple projects at a time. “I would rather do one project at a time, than do many films and lose count of it with nothing substantial to show,” he signs off.
