Rly committee plans to introduce new system to address passenger grievances

To check the complaints against porters harassing passengers by swindling money for the service offered, the South Western Railways (SWR), Mysore has planned to introduce a system to rein them in.

ID cards having the rate charts for the service offered will be soon issued to the porters in the city railway station, said, Chairman of Railway Passengers Amenities Committee Chalavadi T Narayan Swamy, here on Thursday.

Addressing the media after inspecting the facilities at the station, Narayan Swamy said that there were 57 porters in the city station.

ID cards along with the rate chart, will also include the photograph and addresses of the porters. At the time of complaints too, the cards will come in handy in tracing the errant porter.

Swamy said that a similar system was already in place in Bangalore and Hubli, while the same had been implemented at Patna and Secunderabad stations.

Ambulance room

Swamy complimented the railways for opening an ambulance room, by stationing the ambulance to ferry the passengers in case of health complaints. He said that he had asked the authorities at Bangalore, Secunderabad and Hyderabad to take a cue from Mysore to open an ambulance room.

Stoppage at Metagalli

He also said that there was a request from Chamaraja MLA Vasu to provide stoppage at Metagalli in the interest of local passengers and also to decongest traffic at the main station. Like Bangalore, where Yashwanthpur and Cantonment are the other two prominent stations in the State capital, the demand has arisen for Metagalli, added Swamy.

Follow up

This is his second visit to Mysore after assuming charge as the chairman of passengers committee a few months ago. During his maiden visit, he had instructed the authorities here to install more metal detectors, CCTV cameras, opening of toilets, drinking water facilities and food plazas for the benefit of passengers.
