Spl treatment units for women

The budget proposes setting up of 35 special treatment units wherein police, legal and medical help as well as consultation would be provided to women subjected to atrocities like rape and sexual abuse among others. 

The units will be set up in all the 30 district hospitals across the State. In Bangalore, the units will come up at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, KC General Hospital, Bangalore Medical College, Nimhans and Jayadeva Hospital.

The project will be implemented through the Women and Child Development department, for which the allocation has been increased from Rs 3,349 crore to Rs 3,671 crore.  Gurneet Tej, director, Women and Child Development, said: “The guidelines for it will be framed at the earliest by the department. They will function like emergency wards.”

Other proposals

The salaries of anganwadi workers and assistant workers have been hiked by Rs 500 and Rs 250 a month respectively; a total of Rs three crore has been set aside for sanitary napkin-manufacturing units each in 50 taluks;  children from BPL families who are suffering from autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities can avail of medical insurance coverage up to Rs one lakh a year under the ‘Nirmaya’ health insurance scheme with Rs 1.12 crore allocation. 

Rs 7 crore has been set aside for giving motorised tricycles to physically-challenged people, aged between 20 and 60 and from families having annual income of less than Rs two lakh.
