A gang of six dacoits barged into the house of a software engineer on the outskirts of the City and made away with gold jewellery, in the wee hours of Saturday.

Sharath, an engineer with a reputed mobile handset maker in the City, lives with his family at his house in BDA Layout, Avalahalli. According to police, a gang of six dacoits with their faces masked, barged into the house at about 3.30 am and threatened his family members with lethal weapons.

They assaulted Sharath’s father Raveendra with a club and stabbed him in the left arm when he resisted them. The intruders snatched away two gold chains and two gold rings from the women members of the family before fleeing. Sharath, his wife, parents and his cousin sister were present in the house when the dacoits struck the house.

Sampath Kumar, an inspector attached to Talaghattapura police station said that from the scene of the crime and conduct of dacoits it appeared that they were not professionals and should have barged into the house under the impression that it was locked.
Raveendra has been shifted to a nearby private hospital and his injuries are stated to be minor in nature. The Talaghattapura police have registered a case.
