It isn’t everyday that one gets a chance to see a variety of genres being reinvented as rock. But at the recently held gig by local alternative rock band ‘Brim River Band’ at Hard Rock Café, it was a heady mix of vocals, tight instrumentation and fun tunes that had the crowd grooving.

The band performed its own renditions of songs like ‘Yellow’ by ‘Coldplay’, ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ by ‘Swedish House Mafia’, ‘Rolling In The Deep’ by Adele and even Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’, which didn’t sound too bad despite the male vocals.

And while these crowd-pullers did exactly what they were supposed to, their original compositions were also appreciated.

With songs like ‘High Water’ about the tsunami, ‘Like A Drug’ and ‘Silence’, they went back with more fans than they came in with.

The song ‘No Regrets’, which was a jumpy number about childhood days, also saw a happy crowd dancing to the tunes.

For two hours, the band’s energy levels did not drop and the claps after each song were proof to this.

“I had a really good time listening to these guys. Some of the songs were very interestingly reworked. I didn’t know they’re from Bangalore till they said it at the end. This City’s giving rise to some great talent and venues like this should have gigs more often. But the sound here could be a lot better,” said Tara, who attended the concert.

The band, however, faced no issues and was ecstatic at having played at Hard Rock Café, a venue that they’ve had their eyes on for the past two years.

“It was awesome playing to such a packed house and to have the crowd singing along with us. We have been waiting for this experience for a long time and it has surpassed our expectations. We were told that this was the highest sales that the place had in the last two to three months,” said Idress, the band’s drummer.

“We were quite nervous before we went up on stage but the crowd’s response was really insane. We felt like celebrities after the show because a lot of fans came up to us, congratulated and took photographs too. We can’t wait to play here again,” added vocalist and bassist Prathap. The rhythm guitarist Danny and lead guitarist Ashwin were equally excited about the performance.
