An undertrial released from prison on bail was stabbed to death by his rivals near Periyar Circle in DJ Halli police limits early on Monday morning.

The deceased is Mohammed Anees (23), a resident of AK Colony in Kaval Byrasandra. He was lodged in Central Prisons, Parappana Agrahara, in connection with an abduction case, and was released on bail ten days ago, police said.

Anees was returning home on a bike after a party with his friends when he spotted his rivals - Mohammed Ubed, Mohammed Ibrahim and Mohammed Nawaz. All the three are said to have been involved in criminal activities. Anees’ bike brushed against that of Ubed’s, who picked a quarrel with him.

Anees allegedly abused them and all the three chased him (Anees) on their bikes. They intercepted him at Periyar Circle where a verbal duel ensued and the three stabbed Anees . He was rushed to Nimhans where he died around 3 am, the police added.

All the three were arrested within hours of committing the crime.

Man strangles wife

A labourer strangled his wife while she was asleep in Nagavara on Sunday night. According to police, Imtiaz and Rizwan Taj (35) were married for 15 years and had two daughters. The husband and wife had  not been on good terms from the last few months, police said.

On Sunday night, Imtiaz picked a quarrel with Taj and later went to bed. Later, he strangled his wife and fled the spot.

The daughters grew suspicious since their mother did not wake up on Monday morning. They sought the help of neighbours when the murder came to light.
