High Court judge Justice N K Patil on Wednesday said there were 4,812 pending cases related to municipal corporation issues such as waste segregation, land acquisition, hoardings, among others.

“Of these, 2,583 are before the City Civil Court, 676 in the High Court and 1,553 in the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal. Petty cases related to land revenue, land acquisition, and issues related to municipal corporation can be easily disposed of at the Lok Adalat,” he added.

Addressing a National Lok Adalat event, jointly organised by Palike and Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Justice Patil said: “The progress of the City depends on the civic agency’s performance. The officers need to serve the people and be socially committed. They should enjoy what they are doing. The issuance of khata should not be delayed by officers as it is very important for people who have borrowed loans.”

He requested the Palike to identify the type of cases, segregate them and submit them to the High Court so that they can be disposed of easily. Meanwhile, Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said the Palike was unable to introduce new projects and schemes due to non-disposal of cases.
