Picking the right pair of sunglasses can be simple, if you know the shape of your face and choose accordingly, writes I Rahumathullah.

Sunglasses play multifarious roles in our lives. They protect our eyes against harmful radiation. They bring in the style quotient. They even conceal fine wrinkles around the eyes. But do we know how to pick the right pair of sunglasses?

In order to make the right chioce, wehave to bear in mind the face shape and pick a frame size that complements it. Best to try on a couple of options and see how they compliment one’s face. Conventional wisdom tells us which styles best suit certain face shapes. Here’s taking a look at some of the face types and the best eyewear bets:

Round face

For a round face, like that of Bollywood newbie Ayushman Khurana, frames in rectangular styles are best suited. Round faces have equal width and length across the face. Rectangular frames can make them appear longer and would, to some extent limit, the appearance of roundness.

It may also make your face look slimmer by providing the right contrast. Those with round faces should go for angular frames. This face group may benefit from high-on-the-temple, colourful frames as well. Rectangle, square, wrap, and shield are the best bets for those with round faces.

Oblong face

Oblong or rectangular faces, like that of Hrithik Roshan, have more length than width. People with such a face shape should avoid rectangular eyeglasses as this would make your face look even longer. With this face shape, sporting oversized sunglasses is the key. Thick frames, vintage style frames, and deep lenses too will do the trick. This group can carry off wrap, shield, square, wayfarer and rectangle-styled sunglasses. Best to avoid small frames.

Square face

Square faces, like that of Aamir Khan, are about the same length and width across the face, and have a broad forehead and a strong jaw line. People with a square face should try oval or round frames that are narrow. These frames will provide a contrast and will reduce the appearance of strong angles in all fours. They will basically moderate the face shape. Aviators, butterflies, or any frame style that favours oval or circular curves will do the trick. Centre or top-set temples are the way to go.

Heart-shaped face

People with a heart-shaped face, like Varun Dhawan, have wider foreheads and thinner jaw lines. For such people, narrow frames work best. They should avoid using aviator shades because they do nothing to compliment the face shape. The best choice would be the rimless frames in light colours, as they create an illusion of a thinner face. The classic line and shield line are the best bets for people with this face shape.

Oval face

People who have oval-shaped face, like that of Ranveer Singh, are the luckiest of all. They can go as wild and crazy, or classic, or as tame as they wish to with their choice of sunglasses. They have no problems whatsoever.

An oval-shaped face is the easiest one to find shades for. Almost all pair of glasses look absolutely great with a perfectly-shaped oval face, as it is well-proportioned. Designer to sport, fashion to function, just about everything works. Just steer clear of huge frames that block out those pretty symmetrical features. Go for sunglasses that cover your face from your eyebrows to your cheekbones.
