'Serial burglar' held, Rs 1-cr booty recovered

The Banaswadi police have recovered valuables worth Rs one crore by arresting an alleged serial burglar. The suspect has been identified as Karthik.

According to police, Karthik, a resident of Hennur, had been arrested earlier for robbery, but he managed to escape from jail in 2007.

However, he was re-arrested and sent back to jail within a few days of his escape. He went back to committing crimes after completing his sentence, before being arrested again in 2013. He was released on bail in January. Recently, he was brought to a police station after he was spotted moving around suspiciously. During interrogation, it came to light that he was involved in several burglaries.

As much as 2.3-kg of gold, diamonds, ruby and antique jewellery have been recovered from Karthik.

Two held for extortion

The City Crime Branch (CCB)  sleuths have arrested two men for extorting money from street vendors in Cottonpet police limits.

Akram Pasha, a resident of Kalasipalya, and Naveed Ahmed, 58, a resident of MD Block in Malleswaram, are the suspects. A case has been registered at Cottonpet police station.
