Actress criticises IFFI

Last Updated 01 December 2009, 17:51 IST

While Tagore wasn’t in favour of moving the festival out of Goa “that quickly”, she felt the IFFI was lacking in focus and ambience and could do with a better profile and more professional handling of its film market. “What is your focus? At one time it was Bollywood, and then suddenly you moved away from it.”

She said the festival needed a face and bureaucrats were hardly cut out for such a role.
“We are the face of the industry,” Tagore said, suggesting that a well-known actor head the festival every year to give it a better profile. There is a retrospective on the golden jubilee of the two Bengali actors at the festival this year and the poor quality of the print of Satyajit Ray’s ‘Apur Sansar’ which was screened on Monday annoyed Tagore.
She said this was just one example of the inept handling of affairs at IFFI.
