Senior executive sent to police custody for killing wife

A man who stabbed his wife to death was Monday sent to three days' police custody by a district court here, police said.

Rajnish Kumar Singh, a 43-year-old IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus hailing from Ranchi in Jharkhand, was working as the vice president of a consultancy firm.

Singh stabbed his 35-year-old wife Shweta Bindra multiple times using a kitchen knife after a heated argument over her alleged infidelity. He then called up police and surrendered.

Shweta Bindra ran a play-school in the Gurgaon's DLF Phase IV area. The couple, who met through a marriage portal, had been married for nine years.

The accused alleged that his wife had an illicit relationship with a man in the neighbourhood who works at their daughter's school.

At the time of the crime, their seven-year-old daughter and 11-month-old son were in the house while the other five-year-old daughter was at a relative's house.

The accused was presented before a court that sent him to three days in police custody, police officer Jitender Rana told IANS.

Deepak Mathur, the doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination, told IANS there were 15 knife wounds on the dead woman's body, of which 12 were in the abdomen.

There were also injuries on her neck and arm.

The intestines and liver were also damaged, and the loss of blood due to deep injuries in the abdomen was the cause of death, he said.

The woman's body was handed over to her family members.
