Rolls out schemes minutes before model code of conduct imposed

Apparently anticipating declaration of poll dates on Wednesday morning, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav hurried with announcement of schemes worth thousands of crore stumping the poll panel by a few minutes.

The Chief Minister announced enhancement of over seven percent in the allocation for 17 most backward castes, including Nishad, and Mallah (boatmen), in all the schemes meant for these castes at a function here.

Akhilesh also announced the names of eminent personalities who had been awarded the prestigious Yash Bharti award. They included well known bhajan singer Anup Jalota and classical singers Sajan and Rajan Mishra.

He also announced schemes worth Rs 2,000 crore for developing dairy and poultry projects in the state. In an apparent bid to woo the backward Machua (fishermen) community in the state, the chief minister announced a housing scheme for them.

He also said that the fishermen would be given financial assistance by the government for this purpose. Akhilesh has been on a foundation stone laying spree for the past few days. Only on Tuesday he had announced power projects worth several thousand crore.
