Preparations in full swing for LS polls: DC

Preparations for the  Lok Sabha election has kick started in the district and all activities pertaining to preparation of voters list, polling booths, deploying staff have been initiated, said Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tiwari.

Addressing mediapersons at Old Fort hall on Thursday, he said that as on January 1, 2014, there are 4,11,581 voters in the district, of which, 2,04,941 are men and 2,06,640 women. As many as 9,452 have been newly included in the list, of which 4,636 are men and 4,916 are women. 

“There are 526 polling booths in the district. About 78 EVMs will be reserved in case of emergency.  Seventeen flying squad and 15 nodal officers have been deployed for the purpose. 

To confirm the name of the voters in the electoral list, one can visit the website ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in or type karepic voter ID number and SMS it to 9243355223,” the DC said.

He said the election commission has also started helpline for public convenience and one can call 1950 for election related information. For information conatct the District Election Office - 08272-225932, City Municipal Council office - 08272-228323, Madikeri taluk office - 08272-228396, Virajpet taluk office - 08272-257328, Somwarpet taluk office - 08276 - 282045 or the assistant commissioner - 08272-225469. 

Abhiram G Shankar (8971275071) has been appointed as the Assistant Election Commissioner of Madikeri assembly aonstituency and Mallikarjunaiah (9739601935) has been appointed as the Assistant Election Commissioner of Virajpet constituency. 

A control room has been set up at the office of the deputy commissioner to receive any election related complaints and will function round the clock. The number of the control room is 08272-220302.
